Pavel Basinsky is one of the most influential and highly acclaimed literary critics and writers in Russia. Born in 1961 in Frolovo, in the Volgograd region, he graduated from the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute in 1986. He holds a PhD in Russian Philology. He publishes in Literaturnaya Gazeta, Novy Mir, and other prestigious Russian journals. He was a jury member of several major Russian literary prizes, such as the Yasnaya Polyana literary award. He works as culture editor of Rossiyskaya Gazeta. His book about Leo Tolstoy, Flight from Paradise, was published by Glagoslav in 2015.
