Translators

Born in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, Olha Ilchuk received her philological education in that city, moving on to Kyiv to study law. She has successfully practiced law for more than 20 years. She describes translation into Ukrainian of Alexander Korotko’s poetry and prose as “her passion”.

Michael Pursglove is a UK-based translator specialising in the works of Ivan Turgenev, and in modern Ukrainian literature. He also writes and reviews for a number of journals, notably East-West Review.

Professor Alois Woldan was born 1954 in Linz, Austria. He studied Theology, Slavic Philology and Comparative Literatures at Innsbruck University. He visited Voronezh in Russia as a scholar, lectured at Moscow Linguistic University and Wroclaw University in Poland. He worked as Assistant Professor at Salzburg University, Professor of East-Middle-Europe Studies at Passau University, Germany, and until 2020 as Professor of Slavic Literatures at Vienna University. He has received Polish and Ukrainian awards for his work.

Professor of Philology Anna Bednarczyk works at the Department of Russian Studies at the University of Lodz (Poland). She is the head of the Department of Translation and Didactics and her research interests lie primarily within the theory of literary translation. She is the author of 10 academic books and about 150 articles on literary translation. In addition to her scholarly interests, Anna Bednarczyk is also involved in translation practice. Her translations include poems by Marina Tsvetayeva and Igor Severyanin. Recently, she began translating the poetry of Alexander Korotko.
